details throughout the morning. other top stories on this monday. he wants to protect you by becoming the top cop. bass will find out if he gets the job. the council is expected to approve his appointment as the newest police commissioner. he spoke in front of the council and addressed citizens during his confirmation hearing. mayor stephanie rawlings blake nominated him for the position. he died while in police custody and those who knew anthony anderson, they say it was at their hands. his family is this was the scene last night as anderson's family and the community gathered to mark the anniversary of his death. the police department reported that anderson died from swallowing judges but fletcher says she witnessed her son get

thrown around. >> we need to send a sign to the powers that be, that this case will not become a cold case, justice will be served and it will be served because the community will remain on fire for justice. >> witherspoon filed the paperwork to have the justice department look at the case. we have not heard from the state's attorneys office to see if charges are coming but anderson's family will hold a vigil on the 21st of every month until charges are filed. a crash leaves one dead and others hurt. it happened friday near the intersection of broadway. the officers were trying to stop a suspicious vehicle when they saw a passenger acting as if they had a gun. the suv crashed in to another vehicle. the drive was killed.

the passenger is in serious condition. the other people hurt are believed to be football players at dunbar high school. the officers involved are part of the monument street initiative, a unit specializing in gun offenses. hundreds gathered for the funeral of clarence mitchell the third, a member of the most prominent political families and laid to rest. he served in the house of delegates and the senate. he lost a battle with cancer, he was 7 7 72 years old. on thursday, a public view willing be held for former presidential candidate and senator george mc govern. he died in south dakota yesterday at the age of 90 and served in the senate for 18 years and first politician to speak out against the vietnam war. in 1972, he won the democratic nomination for president and lost to richard nixson.

a sea of pink in hunt valley for the race for the cure. for many women in the area it was a celebration of survival and a time to remember those who died from the disease. 4700 women will find out if they have breast cancer. more than 800 others will die from the disease. that's not lost upon the celebrants here. last year komen raised $3 million for programs here.

breaking news, crews are on the scene of a house fire on battery. firefighters had to evacuate the building, these photographs just in to the abc2 news room. we have a crew on the way to the scene. details on good morning maryland today. some of the stories making headlines nationwide this morning, it was supposed to be a relaxing day at the spa. it ended in violence.

radcliffe clayton opened fire at the wisconsin salon where his wife worked and killed three women and hurt four others before taking his life. he entered the shop and started shooting his handgun. when asked if he was going to rob them. he was accused of domestic violence and slashing his wife's tires this month. police aren't seeking other suspects now in the shooting. pennsylvania, a young girl in a halloween costume was shot by a relative. this happened in western pennsylvania near pittsburgh. the gift girl was on a hillside. apparently a male thought she was a skunk and fired a shotgun. the 9 year old was hit in the shoulder, arm, back and neck and awake and alert when taken to the hospital. her relative had not been drinking at the time and not sure if charges will be filed. 8 months pregnant and a day away from being married. smith never had the chance to walk down the aisle and give

birth. she was stabbed to death in her new york home this hand hours before her baby shower -- this hand hours before her baby shower. her older children were escorted away from the home by police. smith's baby was due in a few weeks. no sign of forced end tri entry in to the home. why would two off duty police officers shoot and kill a naked woman? during the weekend the officers were at a party when a woman wearing no clothes and carrying a cross showed up, screaming about the antichrist. she confronted the officers and they shot her. >> the officer or officers that had shot her felt they needed

to. they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. >> both are on paid leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. health news this morning, a big change coming for women when it comes to getting screened for cervical cancer. women between the ages of 35- 65s only need to get a pap test dope once every five years. improvements in screening and treatment are the reasons for the change. they recommend you talk to your daughter if you have questions about your health. boys are hitting puberty earlier than previously thought. researchers say boys are starting to sexually develop 6 months to two years earlier. the findings were similar for girls. many parents will need to have the birds and bees talk earlier
